on the manly arts

Category: musing, randomnesspimento @ 10:09 pm

So, I read something recently (a couple of hours ago) on shaving and why we’re all going it wrong.

Despite the title up there, that includes you ladies. We all know that men invented the reasons behind ladies shaving their legs anyway… we’re all bastards apparently, but we’re happy to be so.

Anyway, it got me to thinking. (Gasp! Shock! Yes, the sudden electrical impulses through my brain were painful at first, but after a while I kinda enjoyed them…) I’m a lazy shaver, I’ve never even bothered to attempt to try giving shaving with a razer that’s not electric a go. (In fact, the only time I’ve been exposed to a manual razor is when my head was shaved, but that’s another story…) This is mostly due to laziness, when I was in uni I’d shave once a week, tops. Once I didn’t shave for 6 weeks due to more laziness and being overseas for four weeks. When I got back to uni, I was dubbed alternately Neckbeard the Pirate (my stubble came in from the bottom up) and the Biblical Carpenter (I was learning how to build theatrical sets and such). I still usually only shave the night (I still night shower…) before appearing in public to this day, so attaining the smooth shave has never been a concern of mine. Even still, reading that article makes me want to give it a go. I believe this is because I’m a sucker for both proper old schoolism, and doing things the fundementally ‘correct’ way. By ‘correct’ I mean ‘the way that I believe it should be done, the way that you prefer is flawed in so many ways I’m not even going to begin to try to attempt to correct you’. My way is just better, you’d do well to just accept that.

I’m not really sure why I brought this up, mayhaps later one I’ll actually obtain the required goods for this method of shaving and let you know how I go. I imagine I will. One day..

On another note, you’ll notice I use a lot of brackets. This is because it’s how I think. Screw proper grammar, my way is better….

For anyone else who has noticed it, I am aware that calendar is misspelt over there. It’s a problem with the theme, I’m going to have to find the right file to edit when I’m in a position to actually access the gubbins of this place. For now, yes I am aware, yes you are allowed to laugh at me.

I would..

Edit: Righteo, fixed now…

somewhat awesome

Category: awesomenesspimento @ 9:41 pm

Right, I’m linking something here that requires explaining. Here it is. Use the Ausgamers link to download it directly.

Seen it? You’re supposed be at least watching on some spare real estate on your screen or preferably on the second monitor you scored from somewhere that you watch vids on while tooling about on the internets.

Why not, it’s super handy? You can put itunes on it while you’re dragging things into it for your ipod, put the remote session into your server machine while tooling about with your firewall on there, use it as aforementioned for videos… no? None of these apply and I’m only showing my hopeless geek side? Well….. your loss.

Anyway, the first thing is to state that the somewhat awesomeness does not come from the standard anime underwear shots, nor the attempt at cute girl vs pervy dude thing going on there. It’s somewhat of an homage to random anime flicks, shooting games (the ones where you’re in a spaceship, not the ones where you shoot persons’ heads off) and other amusingness. Also it contains sacrilege, which is always a plus point. Now, the main points it falls down (for those who appreciate the content) are the music, and the lack of any sound effects whatsoever. The BGM requires more rock (the first thing that comes to mind is Crystal Flash, by virt.. because it’s so awesome even if you don’t know where it’s arranged from.. get it here), and sound effects would add impact. It does contain a monstrous amount of in-jokery, but rest assured that I have no idea about the vast majority of them anyway.

Also, this. I’m not explaining it, it won’t mean anything if you don’t already know.

on fuckwittery

Category: rantingpimento @ 1:32 am

It’s past 1am on a Monday night, and someone nearby has decided that now is a great time to start listening to techno at loud enough volumes to get me up and complaining about it on the internet. Not loud enough that it would wake me if I was actually able to sleep, but far too loud for people who should be allowed to participate in society. These are the people who should be strung up in front of real people, so we can flay them. If I were in charge, I’d set that in motion. I reckon I could drum up enough support to make it happen. Or at the very least we could designate certain suburbs for these demi-people and fence them off from the rest of us. They’d only be allowed back out if they could pass some sort of hearing, and on the proviso that they where a collar with some C4 in it so I could deal with them remotely if they ever crossed me again.

I think that’s fair… readers? Would you support me?

open for business

Righteo, time for to be writing something here. As soon as DNS updates, youze lot should be able to see this. This will be a good thing, at least from my perspective. From yours, well… it could go either way really. Don’t tell me, I think I’d rather not know. Anyhoo, willkommen, bonjour, and etcetera. I’m not promising either quality or quantity here, but maybe there’ll be some unofficial meeting in the middle of the two. Or it could be awesome, you never know.

Stop laughing.

I’m not sure exactly what’s going to end up on here, but I do plan on putting stuff of some description up regularly. Just not really sure what just yet. Huzzah!

something

Category: randomnesspimento @ 6:10 pm

I feel I should write something here, so here goes…

something

Ahh, that feels better.

How much do I like juice? A lot. I’ve been drinking Morning Start juice.. I think it’s Berri.. by the pint. It’s tasty stuff, and it’s good for me! Probably. I’d vary the flavour, but the others I’ve tried don’t cut the mustard. It’s not the cheapest juice on the shelf, but it is super tasty. Is it weird that it seems to make me sleepy?

The CD that the track I’m listening to is from has the second best CD name ever. To Hell With You I’ll Make My Own People. If know what I think the best CD name is, you deserve a cookie of some description. Except you JJ, because I know you know.

The nice thing about tragedy is that sad people give better hugs.

I hate that when when one is shopping for one’s lonesome, you have to think of getting things that will last a week. Or is decidedly dividable and feasibly freezable. I age old lament I know, but now it is affecting me. This time, it’s personal.

The nice thing about working from home is that I don’t have to wear pants. Unfortunately when it’s a bit warm, leather seats get sticky. To the t-shirt that sacrificed itself to be my chair liner, I salute you. You will be remembered.

If you want to stir fry some meat/veg, try spashing some olive oil and soy sauce in the wok, cook your meats (I prefer beef strips, but chicken works also..), add your veg with some more soy and some mirin (cooking sake, cooking rice wine… whatever the bottle calls it) then either add some prepared hokkien noodles in at the end (with a little more soy and some oyster sauce if you like to) or just chuck it on some rice. If going the rice route, mix some cornstarch into a cup of water and chuck that in near the end. This thickens the sauce up. Tastytimes.

I’ve nearly finished watching Twin Peaks. I started it when series one came out on DVD (years ago) so I started from scratch. It’s been super great. I’ve two discs to go.

Lately I’ve been playing Audiosurf. It’s terrific. Essentially you show it your favoured songs, it thinks for a bit, then presents you with a music/rythmn game based on that song. You use your mouse to swerve left and right to collect the coloured blocks, matching them up in chains for more points. The different characters present different play styles, which means that you can play around finding the one that suits your song best. I can’t tell you how awesome this game is, you really need to try it. It’s ten US bucks, you have to purchase it through Steam but there’s a demo available. Not sure what’s in it, I just bought the whole thing. I’ve mostly been playing fast trancy/beaty tracks in mono mode (two kinds of blocks, one to avoid and one to pick up) but it works with most styles of music. Try some Bjork. For beats, try London Elektricity’s The Great Drum + Bass Swindle and DJ Zinc’s Umbongo. Or if you can find it, Area51 - Sunrise on Goa. I’ll get it to you in fact… it’s a little mental. So much fun. So very much fun.

A coupla weeks ago I bought some chopsticks. The box says that they’re disintegration proof, so in the event of a nuclear holocaust, I’m confidant that I’ll be able to eat noodles. Assuming I can find some disintegration proof noodles. That could be a challenge…

My new work phone is a Nokia E65. It’s a slidey one, and has a wonderfully irritating habit of switching off when it’s slid open as someone is calling. It’s very anti-good. Speaking to the internet, it seems that’s a bit of a design flaw with the unit. If you’re in the market for a new phone.. beware. Shame really, otherwise it’s a great phone.

I can has proper internets now, so that’s nice. I’m also real close to the exchange (not as close as Bird Flu though…) so I get over 19meg down… handy!

That’s kinda it for now… I’ll blather more as it comes to it. And just between you and me, it will come to it… oh yes…
